The Lab has five sections, chosen along the top: Load Tracks, LIVE DIRECTOR, Decks, Mix & Beats, and Cue & Accuracy. The last one you used is remembered.

  1. In Load Tracks, press Choose track under each deck and pick a track (the audio starts by itself). Wait for "Analysed" on each deck.
  2. In LIVE DIRECTOR, press Plan mix. The Director picks where to mix, how long, the fade curve and the equaliser moves.
  3. Press Audition mix to hear it (15 seconds before and after). While it plays the button becomes Stop mix: press it to stop and put both decks back at the beginning of the mix, ready to play again.
  4. Change anything you like, then play it again.

The LIVE DIRECTOR section shows, at the top, whether the mix is ready to audition. The Director's plan card says what it decided (the fade, Safe, Level matched, No bass overlap) and lets you switch off its EQ moves or level matching, add a filter sweep, or fix the length. Detailed analysis shows how each measure scored: structure, rhythm, energy, bass, vocals, drums and key.

Under the charts, Other options are the Director's runner-up plans, each saying how it differs from its first choice. Back to the Director's choice returns to the first plan.

Where to mix: by default the mix type decides where in the leaving track the mix goes (Studio and Club wait for the core of the track, so the mix is usually near its end). To audition a pair of tracks, choose Soonest mixable phrase under the mix type: the mix then goes at the first mixable phrase after the playhead. If a stopped deck is already past its last mix point, Plan mix plans from the start of the track.
